En route to a couple of festivals appointments, Fieldview (7th Aug) and Wilderness (9th Aug), and having just come back from Kendal Calling’s double figures birthday bash, Goodnight Lenin ‘return to their favourite venue’ for a sneaky Birmingham warm up show.
Supported by the headline worthy Hoopla Blue and Chartreuse, This Is Tmrw’s Thursday night outing is not bad ear fodder for only ten English pounds sterling. Plus I hear there’s also beer in the building, so…
Erring on the more mournful side of 1960-70’s West coast Americana, Goodnight Lenin’s debut album, In the Fullness of Time, was released on Static Caravan Records last November. An unabashed homage to hope and nostalgia, the South Birmingham band’s eleven track debut could have fallen straight out of a Neil Young notebook.
And supposedly having taken ‘the summer off to work on our second record’, the five piece seem to have slipped out of the studio once or twice to shamelessly have fun in a field somewhere – so muddy fingers crossed for a follow up this side of Christmas.
But there say a picture paints a thousand words, so a Youtube video must be like War & Peace and the Bible having a baby. For a more empirical introduction to Goodnight Lenin, have a stop/look/listen to ‘Old Cold Hands’ – one of the band’s ‘favourite tracks’ from In the Fullness of Time.
And if you like it as much as they do, you can even have for keeps – via a free download from Goodnight Lenin’s Soundcloud page. Stick that in your blueprint for state capitalism and smoke it.
