Haçienda Classical @ Royal Albert HallWords by Ed King

On Sunday 31st August, Haçienda Classical comes to the open air arena in The Rainbow Venues – marking the third and final day of the MADE Festival weekender.Birmingham Preview

Doors open at 3pm, giving you plenty of time to lubricate the tail end of your weekend until the music starts – with peter Hook & The Light performing an electronic New Order set at 5pm, followed by the main show at 7pm.

DJs Davey Echo, Felix Fab, Paul Morton, Richie Roberts, Scott J and Tony Price will be playing throughout the day.

Tickets are priced at £35 plus booking fee – available online through MADE. Click here for more details from MADE.

So what’s this all about? Well, it’s exactly what it sounds like; recognised Haçienda dance floor tracks played alongside, and by, a classical orchestra – the Manchester Camerata to be precise. Yep. ‘Strings of Life’, ‘Pacific State’, ‘You Got the Love’, all with a classically trained string section in tow. Just let that sink in for a second…

So who’s at the helm? Mike Pickering and Graeme Park ‘perform a continuous set of signature Haçienda tracks alongside the orchestra and the singers of the AMC Choir in this innovative live fusion event,’ and you can’t argue with those old credentials.

Twinned with the Manchester Camerata’s reputation for being a little more contemporary than their contemporaries, and not shy of throwing themselves into more unchartered territory, this concert could actually work – with our (somewhat gloating) spies at the Royal Albert Hall event giving it a wholehearted thumbs up.

Someone get Shaun and Bez out the van, the overture’s started.
